I am currenting doing my OS hardening using CIS_Microsoft_Windows_10_Stand-alone_Benchmark_v2.0.0.pdf file. However, there are some sections where i am unable to find the configuration in the MMC settings for eg (section 18.6.4.1 "Configure NetBIOS settings is set to: Enabled: Disable NetBIOS name resolution on public networks"). May i ask where do i find this in the MMC settings? or is there any other approach to do this.

    Hello

To configure NetBIOS settings in Windows 10, you can follow these steps:

Open the Network Connections window by running the command ncpa.cpl.

Right-click on your current network and select its Properties.

Click on the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Click the Advanced button under the General tab.

    Now choose the WINS tab.

Under the NetBIOS setting, select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

Please note that these steps might not directly correspond to the MMC settings, but they should help you achieve your goal of disabling NetBIOS name resolution on public networks as per the CIS benchmark guidelines.

If you’re specifically looking to make these changes using Microsoft Management Console (MMC), you might need to add the appropriate snap-in that allows you to control these settings. However, MMC might not provide a direct interface for this specific setting. It’s generally easier to use the Network Connections interface or use command-line tools like netsh to configure network-related settings.

Remember to be careful when changing these settings, as they can significantly impact your system’s network functionality and security.
