I am trying to upgrade a virtual machine that currently has a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 operating system, to Windows Server 2016 Standard.

When I run the installation program for the update, it starts, but it does not execute it since it shows a message indicating:

Unfortunately we are having trouble determining if the computer can run Windows Server 2016

I have tried several time with the same result.

In the setuperr file, the following information appears:

You could also try a repair install by running setup.exe from the root of the 2012 install media but the much cleaner / safer method would be to stand up the new 2016, patch fully, migrate roles over and move on.
