Problem with DFS namespace server issue

Hi Everyone,

I would like to migrate DFS server from Windows 2012 to Windows 2019.

Once replication is succeeded, then I moved to add new namespace server to existing namespace.

But it encountered error. Checked DFS replication log from DFS servers and DC, there is no any log related.

Please what to do.

I just do not know what's the fault?

Thanks in advance,

Will.

    Hi, William.L

    This is Chaboon.

First, You check name resolution for active directory environments.

You must check the "Preferred DNS" and "Alternate DNS" for TCPIP v4 Settings, all member-server and clients.

Example, you set the "Domain Controller IP Address" for Preferred DNS, but set the "not Domain Controller IP Address (e.g. Router)" for Alternate DNS, you received incorrect DNS name resolution results.

You must set the "Domain Controller IP Addresses" for your preferred and alternate DNS.

The problems when using DNS in the above case can be seen by looking at the document below.

    Hi, William.L

    This is Chaboon.

OK. I understand you not have a problem to DNS settings.

    so, you can trouble shoot to DFS namespace problem, bellow article;
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/dfsn-access-failures

    Existing DFS servers are

    • dfs01.company.com
    • dfs02.company.com

    New DFS servers are

    • new-dfs01.company.com
    • new-dfs02.company.com

Since I couldn't add new DFS servers, possible to add DNS record to

    Rediect dfs01.company.com to new-dfs01.company.com ?

I seem, you can not redirect existing server to new server. DFS Namespace is checked for Active Directory, I think almost your access denied. so you must trouble shoot, see the above article.
