On 9-15-2023 we were offered updates in WSUS for

Microsoft Edge Stable Channel version 117 Update for x64 based Editions(117.002045.31) and

Microsoft Edge Stable Channel version 109 Update for x64 based Editions(103.0.1518.140)

Along with x86 and ARM versions of the same two updates. We also see the WebView2 Runtimes updates on WSUS as well.

My question though is why are we getting the new version, 117, updates as well as a much older version, 109, updates at the same time?

Is it similar to how Windows has version 1809 that will be around much longer that its regular distributions or something completely different?

Thanks for any insight.

Chris

    Hi @Christopher Toon ,

In September 15, Microsoft released 2 updates, one being 117.0.2045.31 and another being 109.0.1518.140.

The reason why you were receiving an update for version 109 is that Microsoft Edge has ended support for Win 7, 8, and 8.1 (including Server 2012 R2 which is based on Win 8.1), but version 109 will receive critical security fixes and fixes for known exploit bugs until October 10, 2023. The latest fix was 109.0.1518.140.

For reference, you can take a look at the release schedule for September 15.
