Hi all,

We have recently enabled the multilingual feature in our SharePoint site collection and translated all the pages, site name, top navigation links to secondary language. User can see the pages in translated language, but users can see only site name and links in default language (not in translated language). Is there anything that we need to enable to make them reflect?

Site name and site navigation will not be translated automatically with multilingual feature. To show the site name, navigation of your site in the different languages you've made available, each must be translated manually. You can add or update translations when you edit any of these elements.

1.In the home page, click Settings at the top of the page -> Site Information -> Under Site name, click Translate site name -> Under Site description, select Translate site description -> Add your translated site name and site navigation.

Note: The site name and description are not translatable in sites connected to a Microsoft 365 Group.

2.In the Edit navigation panel, select the ellipses next to the link you want -> Edit -> Under Display name, select Translations -> Add your translated display names.

The ability to display the site name and navigation in the user's language does not require the multilingual page publishing feature, but the feature does make language selection more confusing.

I will assume that the site name and navigation were translated correctly. The biggest thing to watch out for is don't use the little language dropdown in the heading menu. That doesn't change your language, it causes a mismatch between the language of the content and the language of the interface for the rest of your session. Instead, change your language in your user profile. It's a bit of a long process but it's the correct way to do it:

In your personal menu, click on My Profile

    1. Click on Update Profile under your name
    2. Scroll down to "How can I change language and regional settings?" and click on it
    3. Click on the word "here"
    4. click on the ellipsis (...) and then choose Language and Region
    5. Under Language/Language Preference/My Display Languages, delete the current language
    6. Click on Pick a new language and select the new language
    7. Note: there are lots of different versions of the language.  It doesn't matter which one you pick, with the exception of Portuguese and Chinese, where it does matter
    8. Click on Add
    9. Scroll to the bottom, and click "Save all and close"
    10. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes.  It's hard to tell how long you have to wait for it to take effect
