After successfully applying SharePoint 2016 Aug 2023 CU, SharePoint sites can be accessed from within the SharePoint server. However, users, accessing the SharePoint sites via a Load Balancer, encounter the error "The site could not be reached.". During this time, we observed that the status of servers having the SharePoint Foundation Web Application service has changed to "Upgrade Required" under Central Admin > Servers in Farm page. Despite showing "No Action Required" following a reboot after the patching .

Strangely, users could access the SharePoint site without any problem once we reverted one of the WFE servers back to the server image prior to the upgrade. We tried to apply the CU again in the WFE server and the same error occurred.

    Hi @Jake Chan,

Please check if you have successfully installed the SharePoint 2016 Aug 2023 CU. You can go to Central Administration > Upgrade and Migration > Check product and patch installation status to manage the version.

After install the update, you will need to run wizard configration again. If the issue still exist after doing this, you could go to ULS log to get more information about the error
