SAP HANA HSR backup in the secondary region

Hi,

I have a SAP HANA cluster with HSR enabled in my primary region which is being backed up by Azure Backup Vault in subscription1. My DR HANA system is in different subscription and is connected through Async HSR to the primary HANA cluster. Can I configure Azure Backup on the DR DB instance with a different Azure Backup Vault so that I can backup DB in case of a DR situation including the log backups? Will there be an impact to primary instance when I fallback from DR region.

Thanks in advance

Deepankar

    Hi Deepankar,

is important that you know that support for HSR + DR scenario is currently not available because there is a restriction to have VM and Vault in the same region.
Secondly, for the solution to work one of the pre-requisites is that the Recovery Services vault should be created in the same region and subscription as the two VMs/nodes of the HANA System Replication (HSR) database. So, you cannot have two different vaults.

So, the answer to your question here is no, you cannot configure the Azure Workload Backup SAP HANA HSR solution in the way you have described.

Hope I was able to help!
