Recycle bin corrupted after turning off folder redirection and removing access to old redirection location.

Background-

We were using folder redirection to a Users share on a server. We are also using Offline files

In prep to migrate the users data to Onedrive, we turned off folder redirection, redirected back to the C:\ drive and are now redirecting known folders to OneDrive.

A few months later we removed access for our Users to the Users Share.

Shortly after we removed the access when users tried to access their recycle bin they would get an error that recycle bin on the old Users share where they were being redirected to is corrupt. See attached image.

We've tried turning on offline files on a specific users machine and then explicitly denying the users account access to the share and the error still occurs. I'm thinking that there are documents in the recycle bin that were deleted from the redirected folder on the share and now when trying to open it the user no longer has access to where these files were deleted from and that causing the issue.

How can we cut that ties to old location?2023-09-28_14-07-25

I resolved the recycle bin errors after searching the registry I found these keys still pointing to the old user share under HKEY_USERS. I deleted those and rebooted. I deleted those keys and rebooted and no more errors. However the videos, pictures, and music under "This PC" are now pointing locally and not to OneDrive as they should... the ones under quick access are pointing to OneDrive.

If I'm understanding this article correctly - Windows 10/11 User Shell Folders Restore Default Paths » Winhelponline - these should have been overwritten since we redirect to OneDrive ...Though he is referencing HKEY_CURRENT_USER...? But they were still pointing to our old Users share.

A reinstall of OneDrive didnt fix the issue. I am testing updating the registry keys via GPO to point users OneDrive, instead of deleting the keys.
