ASR Temp VMs in Azure

Hi, We are using Azure Migrate to migrate our on-prem HyperV VMs to Azure and have almost completed the migration. We have only a couple of VMs left to be migrated. We have noticed there are currently 6 VMs with the name "asr-tempxxxx" have been created automatically and running continuously and causing our monthly billing to increase. When checked the disk section, we can see the second disk attached to these VMS are the the VMs that we have successfully migrated from on-prem to Azure using Azure migrate. As we are not sure if these are required or have any critical role to play in the ASR replication and can we delete these VMs manually? Many thanks

Hello @Ghulam Abbas Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A platform. Happy to answer any questions you may have!

The VMs with the name "asr-tempxxxx" that you are seeing in your Azure environment are temporary VMs that are created by Azure Site Recovery during the replication process. These VMs are used to store the replicated data before it is transferred to the final target VMs. Once the replication is complete, these temporary VMs are no longer needed and can be deleted.

However, before you delete these VMs, it's important to make sure that the replication process has completed successfully and that all the data has been transferred to the final target VMs. You can check the replication status in the Azure Site Recovery portal to ensure that the replication process has completed successfully.

Once you have confirmed that the replication process has completed successfully, you can safely delete the temporary VMs. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. In the Azure portal, navigate to the "Virtual machines" section.
    2. Select the temporary VM that you want to delete.
    3. Click on "Delete" and follow the prompts to delete the VM.

It's important to note that deleting the temporary VMs will not affect the final target VMs that you have migrated using Azure Migrate.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions!
