Recover a deleted application insights service in a resource group

Hi together,

I deleted a Resource Group in Azure. In the Resoucre Group there was an Insights Service.

Can I recover the group or at least an empty group with the complete settings.

Or can I somehow recover the Insights in another group?

Please help, this is urgent.

Welcome to this moderated Azure community forum.

I'm sorry, but once Azure resources are deleted, individually or as part of a deleted resource group, all services and related settings are unrecoverable.

The compute, data, configuration, security settings, ARM templates, etc. are all deleted.

You should start consulting your backups, repositories, emails, chats, or documentation for settings set in the past.

Incidental deletion of services can be prevented by using Azure resource deletion locks or preventing access by non-administrators overall.

thanks for the answer. The data are not the problem. We are calling the application insights from outside. So I need a way to map/forward the old InstrumentationKey to a new one. Or create a new Application Insights Service with exactly the same InstrumentationKey. Is that possible? Or do you see any workaround for this?

It seems the application key is managed by Application Insights itself:

It seems this auto-generated key cannot be replaced by the one you have already.

sorry, I mentioned another key (so many keys...).

Please check out this documentation, it looks promising:

You can set a connection string in code or by using an environment variable or a configuration file.

Let me describe it better: By accident, we deleted our Application Insights Service in Azure. We already have a desktop application that pushes the data to the Application Insights. But now with the old InstrumentationKey. Sure we can update the desktop application and insert the new Connection String (which includes the InstrumentationKey). But all users with older version of the desktop application cannot push the data to the Application Insights, because the InstrumentationKey no longer exist.

Now again my 2 questions:

Is there a way in Azure to set the InstrumentationKey on your own?

If not is there a way to map/forward the old InstrumentationKey to the new one in an Azure Service?

the use case is clear.

Altering all customer applications can have a large impact.

It seems the previous link only describes client usage.

I have not seen a way to alter the connection string of an existing Application Insights instance.

The CLI Application Insights creation command does not provide an option to set the connection string.

I see. And there is also no way to map an old key to a new one, I guess.

Hi @Alexander Dürrstein Unfortunately there is no way to edit the connection string of the resource. These values are autogenerated by the platform and are not editable.

I understand that this situation may have caused great inconvenience, and I want to express my gratitude for your efforts and patience in handling it.
