New to SSAS. I have SQL Server, do I need to pay extra for ssas?

By the way, when I look up information, I see that Azure Analysis Services has similar functions. Which one should I choose?

SQL Server Analysis Services
SQL Server Analysis Services

    Hi @NNJ

First of all, there is No extra fees outside SQL Server for SSAS.

It depends on what is your main purpose and hardware also.

Azure Analysis Services is an on-cloud service, and SSAS is on premise.

SSAS on-prem could have traditional multidimensional OLAP cube while on Azure Analysis Services we could only have tabular model now.

Azure Analysis Services we could pay as used.

    Best regards,

I need to pay extra for ssas?

The SQL Server license for Standard Edition covers the complete SQL Server technology stack and this means

    • relation database engine
    • Integration Services
    • Reporting Services
    • Analysis Services; in case of Standard "only" multi-dimensional mode, not tabular mode
