we are using the independent virtual server from Azure, but customers always feedback the long server response time, and can not browse the website smoothly

our company website is www.leadshine.com, we are using azure independent virtual machine and its database service, with location based in Central US, Standard_D4ds_v4, 16GB RAM, and with 30GB OS disk, 60GB data disk.
Our website daily access traffic is around 30GB per day, but the server response time in European countries (Germany, Netherland etc) and some other countries (India, Turkey ) is pretty slow, customer complained lot of times.
The current testing data is like this:
LCP: 6.2s, FID: 2s, CLS: 0.82s, TTFB: 4s, FCP: 4.6s
This data was under the service of azure CDN testing, if without CDN service, the data result will be much worse.
Can you guys help to analyse that what should we do to optimize the website, besides compressing picture and video file size?

I understand that you would like to know the best practices with using Azure CDN with an Azure VM as backend.
I take it that you are using Azure CDN, with Origin Type as "Custom Origin" and "Origin hostname" as your server domain name.
Please let me know if my observation is incorrect.
- May I ask what SKU/Type of CDN are you using?
- Is it Microsoft Standard, Akamai Standard, Edgio Standard or Edgio Premium?
- Optimization generally depends upon the type of content your website serves.
- Make sure caching is properly configured

Currently we are testing Microsoft CDN (classical).
We just want to make clear that if CDN service is needed for our English website. If without CDN, why the server response is too slow ?

We want to make clear that if CDN service is must needed by our website: www.leadshine.com
- This depends entirely upon your website and use case.
- CDN would definitely boost your performance
- Please look at the optimization features available for Azure CDN Classic
- Should you have a global customer base, it's better to have a CDN/AFD in front of it as it would greatly increase the performance.

And without CDN, why the website server response is too slow ? What is the main problem for our website, maybe the problem of development source code ?
- Honestly, no one can comment on this without looking at the code/implementation/latency
- I see your "server" is a VM in Central US, Standard_D4ds_v4, 16GB RAM
- Here are the possible cases,
a. The VM is over utilized
b. The VM request and response from the DB is too slow
c. The latency between the VM and European countries is very high and etc
Now,
- Did you have a lower Test/dev environment where the performance was good before you deployed this into the Production environment?
- This is imperial to set "benchmark" standards from which you can compare.
- There is no specified performance SLA Azure offers. So you must make sure your server is able to catch up the load during the development stage itself.

- The above is for a service in Azure to Azure, so expect a bit higher latency for service in Internet to Azure
You must improve both performance and latency for a good experience
There are various ways to improve performance of the server:
- Using AFD/CDN
- Using VMSS instead of a single VM (provides horizontal scaling)
- Azure Load balancer and multiple Active-Active servers
- Cross-region (Global) Load Balancer to make the service globally available using an Anycast IP
Additionally, it is also possible that the code/application is not properly configured to handle multiple requests or large requests.
But this is something you must work with your internal team
