OWA and all Office 365 work except Outlook. It says I have an incorrect password

This has been going on for years and I gave up. I have had the email account for 30 years. I was in admin at Microsoft and set up the domain as soon as it was available. When I could register the domain with MS and add email, I did so. The past few years it has said It cannot create an account in outlook. To check with my administrator. There is no administrator. I set everything up and have used the default pop3 and smtp addresses (changing as needed) for years. Now I can only use OWA. I often get thousands of emails a week and OWA does not work for me - I need the desktop app.

My other accounts still work. Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo. Xfinity But not my primary account. It also tells me to install 365, which I have had since it became available.2023_10_11_16_21_37_

    Hi @Daniel Koger

    Welcome to our forum!

Do you mean that only Outlook desktop client cannot log in and there will be a password error?

Please try removing the login credentials and logging back in to check for discrepancies. (make sure your account password is correct). Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager and remove any credentials related to Outlook.

The past few years it has said It cannot create an account in outlook.

How did you create your account and are there any errors?

To create a new account, you need to go to Microsoft 365 admin center. Please log in to the M365 admin center >Users>Active users>Add a user.

I set everything up and have used the default pop3 and smtp addresses (changing as needed) for years.

As far as I know, if you're using an on-premises Exchange server mailbox, you need to enable the protocol to configure it. More information, see:

Enable or disable POP3 or IMAP4 access to mailboxes in Exchange Server | Microsoft Learn.

POP, IMAP, and SMTP settings for Outlook.com - Microsoft Support.

    Hope this helps!
