Intune Win32 app detected incorrectly and cannot uninstall

Hi,

My company has packaged Microsoft PowerToys, and deployed it to Intune for users to install.

On my machine, it was installed manually via a local installer, then I went into Company Portal and "installed" it from there whilst I already had it installed. Since then, the state of this app has gotten out of sync, and I now have two issues;

  1. The app version detected in Intune is that of Microsoft Edge, and NOT Microsoft PowerToys
  2. I am unable to uninstall PowerToys from Company Portal, meaning I also cannot update it, and am having to update manually

When attempting to uninstall from Company Portal (whether the app is actually installed or not), I get this error in the Intune Management Extension log:

<![LOG[[Win32App][WinGetApp][WinGetAppExecutionExecutor] Completed execution for app with id: aa14ba51-33ee-4fcb-ac1d-678bd84a662a.
WinGet operation result:
Operation result =  UninstallError
Installed version =
Reboot required = False
Installer Error code = 93
Installer extended error code = -1978335184
Installer exception message = Exception from HRESULT: 0x8A150030
Execution result:
Action status: Failed
Enforcement state: Error
Reboot status: Clean
Error code: 93]LOG]!><time="10:03:48.7621181" date="10-12-2023" component="IntuneManagementExtension" context="" type="1" thread="89" file="">

I am unable to find any information online for those error codes or statuses, so I am now at a loss as to how to get this cleanly uninstalled from Company Portal, so I can then do a clean reinstall and allow it to complete updates for me.

One interesting thing to note, is it has been deployed as a Win32 app in Microsoft Store (Preview), shown below:

This means there don't seem to be any detection rules, or command line parameters that can be tweaked.

Any guidance on how I can deal with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

James

    @JamesEdmondsUKPN,Thanks for posting in Q&A.

    From your description, I know that you have deployed Microsoft PowerToys via Intune, but get some error about checking app version, uninstalling and updating it.

    Based on my testing, I first manually install Microsoft PowerToys from Microsoft store, and then I deployed it via Intune, the Microsoft PowerToys version in my Intune is correct, but I cannot click install and uninstall in Company Portal. Could you please provide us the information how you manually installed the app?

    In general, we uninstall app via Intune when we deploy it via Intune. As for uninstalling the app which manually installed on the device, please check if there is uninstall command, if not, please ask app support to get the command.

    Moreover, when you deployed app as Microsoft store type, the app will automatically update.

    Thanks for your kind understanding. Feel free to contact me if there is any update.
