Check with the pc manufacturer. For example Dell has hardware testing built in to the firmware.

Is there a program or device I can get to put an ethernet card through a grueling test. I've been through heck trying to determine what is doing this. When the pc boots to the lock screen it shows the symbol indicating it's connected. when it finishes booting, "sometimes," it goes out and switches to WIFI. It either stays there or switches back to a different Ethernet even though I only have 1, too weird!
I've learned that if I use the following in the cmd windows it will stabilize to an ethernet connection.
ype netsh winsock reset and select Enter.
Type netsh int ip reset and select Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and select Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and select Enter.
Type ipconfig /flushdns and select Enter.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Dave, that was the first thing I checked. it's built into the bios, "MyASUS System Diagnosis- Component Test." However, it only tests the WIFI side. Weird!
