Three remote users need to access a SQL database on a desktop computer. At times all will need access to the SQL database at the same time. I was told Remote Desktop Services was a good option. I have the following questions.

  1. What server edition would be best for my needs? Is there any additional costs other than the server license so the three users can use Remote Desktop to access the SQL database?

The computer will be used just to access that database. Nothing else.

Either Server 2019 or Server 2022 will work fine. Yes, if you add the remote desktop services role then RDS Cals will be required. Please don't forget to close up the thread here by marking answer if the reply is helpful and open a new thread if you need assistance with RDS setup.

Both Server Standard and DataCenter allow two concurrent remote desktop sessions. If you needed more then you'll need to add the Remote Desktop services role, complete the configuration then also add RDS Cals for each device or user.
