Why is Word export to PDF of SAME Word file producing PDF file 10x larger today than on Oct.9?

On Oct.9 and each previous week for the past couple years I prepared a new 20-page Word document weekly that contained text with perhaps a dozen emojis but NO images. The Word file sizes were about 100KB. Each week I then exported the Word document to PDF. The resulting PDF file was usually under 400KB. This past Monday (Oct.16) I tried to do the same as usual. But this time the PDF file size came out around 4MB!! So, I’ve tried some tests. The 99KB Word file from Oct.9 had resulted in a PDF of 376KB that day. Today I tried to export that same file and it produced a PDF of 3.9MB.

I’m suspecting that the Office update Version 2309 (Build 16827.20166) via Current Channel that was done automatically on Oct.10 is the culprit. The previous update was Sept.28 Version 2309 (Build 16827.20130) which did NOT have that problem.

I’m using Windows 11 Pro on a Dell laptop and have Office Professional Plus 2019.

Do I need to wait for a fix to the "bug" or is there a simple solution?
