VM not getting added to Azure Monitor

Question

I was trying to migrate from Log Analytics agent–based VM insights to Azure Monitor agent–based VM insights to send logs to a particular log analytics work space. I had created the data collection rule and choose a particular workspace to which i wanted the logs to go.

While doing so when ever i go to azure monitor and and wanted to enable the service i only get the option for default data collection rule not the data collection rule i wanted and also the VM automatically moves back to not monitored from monitored after few hours. Is any one facing the same issue ?

Siddharth Sharma Welcome to Microsoft Q & A Community Forum. From the information provided, I see you are trying to enable VM insights solution using Azure Monitor Agent. I see that your machine is part of the Not monitored tab. The Not monitored tab includes all machines that don't have VM insights enabled, even if the machines have Azure Monitor Agent or Log Analytics agent installed. If a virtual machine has the Log Analytics agent installed but not the Dependency agent, it will be listed as not monitored. In this case, Azure Monitor Agent will be started without being given the option for the Log Analytics agent.

When you click on Enable option, it allows you to choose the list of data collection rules that can be used or an option to create new data collection rules. It's suggested that you don't create your own DCR to support VM insights. The DCR created by VM insights includes a special data stream required for its operation. Which is why the DCR which you have created is not visible.

Regarding VM automatically moves back to not monitored from monitored after few hours, kindly provide further information to check further on this.
