ERP Application SMTP Authentication Unrecognized

Hello,

New to MS365 and Azure AD. Ongoing MS365 migration taking place. I have an ERP application that allows reports to be sent from an ERP application via SMTP settings configured in the application itself. When we began migrating from my On-Prem Exchange Server for some users, they could no longer email these report. The application mailtext.log shows the following error: SmtpCmdResp: 504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type. Some research indicates I may need to use Azure AD > Security > Conditional Access to modify policy for my legacy ERP application. Does anyone know where I should begin my troubleshooting/testing?
