Good afternoon
. I am trying to press F8 to agree and let the virtual machine continue to load. I am trying to build a lab. The virtual machine I am trying to load windows xp professional 64 bit (not connected to internet). Then I will load Kali Linux (connected to internet) on another virtual machine and Metasploit (connected to internet) on another. When I load a windows xp 64 bit machine and get to the part where I have to hit F8, the virtual machine does not do it. The page allows me to go up and down, but it will not allow me to press F8. Any suggestions?

With the focus on the virtual machine window you use your own keyboard to press F8. I just booted XP install media to test this.

That is exactly what I did. I pressed F8 on my keyboard and it did not work. Strange thing is, I can go up and down on the page, using the page up and page down option, but the F8 option doesn't work.

I can confirm that it worked for me. Might try from a different hyper-v host.
what do you mean a different hyper v host? The hyper v came with the laptop. I have windows 11 pro which has hyper v on it.
Ok, well as I said I tested the exact setup with an XP ISO here and it worked fine for me and this was not the first time installing XP, it has always worked without issue.
Does hyper v have a keyboard option?
No its a type 1 hypervisor. You can try fiddling with enhanced mode though I have never needed this.

thank you for your assistance. I tried the options posted on the link. Unfortunately, none of them worked. I still am not able to press the F8 key to finish the windows XP installation on Hyper V.
Two things come to mind. Either the install media is somehow problematic or the host OS has some sort of issues. You might try downloading fresh installation media. If that doesn't help then rebuilding the host may be another option.
I tried that and unfortunately it did not work. I am still unable to build a virtual machine using windows xp.
Another issue i ran into. I tried installing Kali linux. When i install it, I get the picture that is attached. Screenshot 2023-10-28 063733.png any suggestions?

Ok, well I don't know about the other two. Do they also require an F key during setup? If so this is sounding more like some sort of host operating system issue.
