New Teams date/time format

we are currently testing the "new" Teams via the toggle switch.

We have noticed that the date/time format in the "new" Teams shows in US format. The old teams shows in Australia format which is what we want

I have logged into here and it matches the powershell output yet the new Teams version shows US

I have checked account via Get-MailboxRegionalConfiguration and it returns the below. IS there anything else that i can check and set? I dont think its ideal to ask the end user to do this within the Teams app

Its the same for me. The old Teams shows the regional settings I set in Windows, in my example its german.
So times are shown as 15:30 instead of 3:30pm. The new Teams just ignores this settings.

It's a joke how bugs like this are not accepted as bugs, but we need to gather enough votes to get them to fix it.

Hey to a totally uncurated feedback-system where users can enter the same issues again and again, splitting up the votes, so none of the entries ever reaches a level, where it gets Microsofts' attention. One could think, this is intentional...

According to our tests, the full format of the date can only be displayed in chat history.

In the chat list, non-today's dates will show only the date (no time), and today's chats will show the time.

This is by design, to get this feature more quickly, you can send a feedback directly to Microsoft Feedback to add it in future updates.

Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

This is not the question that NP was asking. The "full format" that you refer to is the American date format. Many other countries use DD/MM not MM/DD. New Teams is no longer following system or account settings for date format and is defaulting everyone to the American date format which is very confusing for countries that do not use it. It's the reason I've switched back to classic Teams.

This is incorrect, the short date format (dd/MM/yyyy) is visible apart of task lists within Teams. After trying multiple ways to change the regional formatting from en-us to en-nz it seems it is not currently possible in the 'New' Teams client, I tried:

Office 365 account regional settings

Computers regional settings

Setting regional settings in classic Teams client and switching back to the 'New' client

Setting Teams regional settings in the Teams browser and relaunching Teams desktop application

It is rather frustrating not having the local regional format within the new client, I am someone who works in IT and we have a tasks list for managing certificate renewals / expirations, the format being incorrect means the dates may be interpreted wrong by whoever the task is assigned to, and a very critical task missed (root PKI CRL file refresh missed as an example).

@Perry Swain unless MS adds this as a feature to the new Teams i think the only way to do it would be to get the user to do it manually (not ideal) or to script it by modifying the json file (like this maybe https://jloudon.com/m365/Automate-Microsoft-Teams-desktop-settings-with-PowerShell/) Not something i have invested time in yet but it looks like it may be the only option unless there is a setting we are all still unaware of with the new Teams

@Anonymous please read the original issue again. The problem is that the New Teams doesn;t respect regional date formats. It sets the format to US, instead of listing to the machines regional settings.

I no get times in AM/PM and that's something we do not use in The Netherlands. These are kind of functional basics of every modern application...

@WallyWally12 see the known issues: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-known-issues We can only hope this is fixed before end of March when new Teams goes to being the default

to be honest, it would be nice to see some consistency and better documentation surrounding this. I know its not your fault but reading more into this, a lot of suggestions say that multiple places need to have the country/region set in exchange online, sharepoint, one drive, the OS etc... (by the way i tried them all and it made no difference in the new teams)

One thing i did notice was that changing the setting in the the Teams client to Australia updated the json file to be en-GB instead of en-AU....

Not sure if i understand you correctly or if my question didnt make sense. This is from a chat window. You can see the format in the left is US, but we are in Australia. This isnt the case with the old Teams version if i switch back. Both the chat history and chat list are showing the wrong date format. Why does the old Teams work ok but not the new?

In Teams classic version, you can modify the preferred language in settings, but this function has disappeared in New Teams. If your computer system has been set to Australia and the date format in Teams is still US, we believe this is by Microsoft's current design.

We recommend heading to Teams User Voice to make a suggestion to prompt the Teams engineering team to add this feature as soon as possible.

It is still possible to go back to the "old" version of Teams where there is no date and time format problem.

On Windows 11 I can hit Start > Type "teams" > Click on the "Teams (for work or school)" one without the "New" in the icon.

The old teams will open and ask if you would like to switch back to the old version. I hope that helps.

I have just encountered this problem. We're in South Africa and use date format yyyy/mm/dd.

When using the Lists app in Teams, and have a column with a Date Property, the date format is mm/dd/yyyy, I guess it's not a huge problem but definitely an inconsistency, and a bit frustrating.

We found that this was resolved for us in Australia by changing the language under Teams > Settings > Appearance and Accessibility to "English (Australia)". Presumably that works for other region languages too?

I'm still not pleased with how Microsoft is handling this because there are numerous bug reports but no official response, and previously the date format was handled by date format settings (either in Teams or in the OS). But at least it's a solution.
