We have 1 team that was established by our previous IT Director that new employees are automatically assigned to this Team. However, the membership type is assigned and not dynamic. There are no Flows that I can see assigning employees to this team. The Team is managed in 365's cloud environment and not our on premise AD.

    Hi @Administrator

However, the membership type is assigned and not dynamic.

You can change a group's membership from static to dynamic (or vice-versa) In Microsoft Entra ID. The following steps can be performed using an account that have an Azure AD Premium P1 license and a team owner or administrator role.

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least a Groups Administrator.
    2. Select Microsoft Entra ID.
    3. Groups.
    4. From the All groups list, open the group that you want to change.
    5. Select Properties.
    6. On the Properties page for the group, select a Membership type of either Assigned (static), Dynamic User, or Dynamic Device, depending on your desired membership type. For dynamic membership, you can use the rule builder to select options for a simple rule or write a membership rule yourself.

select membership type of dynamic user

Note: When changing an existing static group to a dynamic group, all existing members are removed from the group, and then the membership rule is processed to add new members. If the group is used to control access to apps or resources, be aware that the original members might lose access until the membership rule is fully processed. We recommend that you test the new membership rule beforehand to make sure that the new membership in the group is as expected.

If you are using Office 365 groups or Microsoft Teams, you can use dynamic group membership to automatically add users to a group based on their user attributes. You will need an Azure AD Premium P1 license to use this feature. You can create a dynamic group rule in the Azure portal or by using PowerShell. For how to set up it, you may refer to the article.
