I'm running windows 10, and have not been able to connect to internet since quality update KB5031356 was automatically installed yesterday. Internet was working fine immediately before the update, and has not worked since. I tried restarting computer and router. Wifi and internet works fine on other devices. I can connect to wifi and ping router fine, but no access to internet. Windows troubleshooter reports DNS server not responding. If i connect on ethernet instead, same thing - connects to router, but no internet access and troubleshooter reports DNS server not responding. Ipv4 and ipv6 properies set to select DNS automatically. I have tried uninstalling KB5031356, but it fails to uninstall. My network card drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

I struggled for so many hours that I have to post what worked for me: in network adaptor properties, just uncheck "Network LightWeight Filter"

    Hi @Mark Dalgliesh

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble connecting to the internet after installing the KB5031356 update. The update may cause DNS errors or conflicts that prevent internet access. Here are some possible solutions that you can try:

    1. Flush the DNS cache and update the IP address. You can open the command prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:
    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /renew

Then close the command prompt and try browsing the web.

2.Change your DNS server settings to use a different DNS provider, such as Google DNS or OpenDNS. You can do this by going to Settings > Network and Internet > to change adapter options. Then right-click Network Adapter and select Properties. Double-click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select Use the following DNS server addresses. For Google DNS, enter 8.8.8.8 as the preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 as the alternate DNS server, or for OpenDNS, enter 208.67.222.222 as the preferred DNS server and 208.67.220.220 as the alternate DNS server. Click OK and close the window.

3.Uninstall KB5031356 and see if the issue is resolved. This update can be removed by selecting View installed updates in the Programs and Features Control Panel.

If none of them work, you may need to contact your internet service provider or Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Lei

    What's the result of

    ipconfig /all
    tracert 8.8.8.8

Try connecting to a different network. If same result then it sounds like either the hardware failed or some sort of driver corruption. Might check Device Manager for clues. Also check the pc manufacturer's site about diagnostics tools for your hardware.

It happened to me too. Whenever Windows Security Update version KB5031356 is updated, all internet access via wifi or Local Area Network (LAN) does not work. I have already done all the above guides. Only uninstalling the Windows Security Update version KB5031356 can restore internet access on my computer.

I had to do the uninstall process many times every time Windows Security Update was updated.
