Hello,

My Windows server 2022 has block automatic updates and restarts by registry however the KB5031364 seems to have bypassed all this and just update and restart the server without asking.

Does anyone experience something similar ? this is very concerning.

    Hi

If your Windows Server 2022 system has installed updates and restarted despite having settings in the registry to block automatic updates and restarts, it's important to investigate the issue and take appropriate action. Here are some steps you can take:

    Review Group Policies:

It's possible that group policies set by your organization or local group policies on the server could override registry settings. Review group policy settings related to Windows Update to make sure they are aligned with your preferences.

    Check for Pending Updates:

Sometimes, updates are queued, and when a critical update is available, it might be installed and require a restart even if automatic updates are turned off. Check if there were pending updates that triggered the restart.

    Review Event Logs:

Examine the Windows Event Logs for any information related to the update and restart. Look for entries in the "Windows Logs" > "System" log that provide details about the update installation and system restart.

    Defer Updates:

On Windows Server 2022, there is an option to defer updates, which might prevent certain updates from being installed. You can access this through the "Settings" > "Windows Update" > "Advanced options."

    Review Update Configuration:

It's also possible that the update settings themselves have changed. Newer Windows updates may introduce changes in the way updates and restarts are managed. Check if the behavior is consistent with the update's release notes.

    Check for Known Issues:

Search for known issues related to the specific update (KB5031364) on Microsoft's support website or community forums. Sometimes, updates can have known problems, and Microsoft might provide guidance or updated patches to address these issues.
