How to fix the File Count Limit error with SharePoint Migration Tool?

I am using the SharePoint Migration Tool on a directory with 277gb.

I keep receiving a scan error as per my attached screenshot:

"There is a scan issue. Please refer to Scan Summary report for more details."

When I go to the error report the error reads:

"File count '53820' is too large to create index"

After countless attempts to restart the migration it just hangs on this error.

If anyone can assist me with this error that would be much appreciated.

    Automatic index creation when sorting in the modern experience is limited to lists and libraries with less than 20,000 items. Since you are trying to migrate more than 50,000 files, it exceeds the limit and causes the error.

    There are a few possible solutions that you can try:

    • You can migrate the files in smaller batches and check if the error persists. For example, you can split the directory into subdirectories with less than 20,000 files each and migrate them one by one.
    • If possible, We recommend creating enough separate libraries to avoid the error.
    • You can create indexes on the columns that you want to filter or sort by before migrating the files. This way, you can avoid the automatic index creation process and reduce the chance of errors.
