We are having an issue deploying updates to SCEP client on Windows Server 2008 (non R2) as of 22/10/2020. The following error is displayed in the WindowsUpdate.log

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800700c1: Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Endpoint Protection - KB2461484 (Version 1.325.1512.0).

When trying to install the manually downloaded updates an error reporting the .exe is not a valid Win32 application

SCEP on Windows Server 2008 R2 and above are working normally

Anyone else having this issue or seen it before?

    I just got a temporary workaround for this issue from Microsoft. This is a manual way to do the definition updates, and so you'll have to do it to update definitions each time you want to update them until they release a patch.

    1. Download the definition updates from Microsoft. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/defenderupdates (Choose the System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection 32 or 64bit based on your OS)
    2. Extract the downloaded file using 7-zip or another application. This should give you a all the different update files split out.
    3. Copy all the files to the updates folder "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates\Updates"
    4. Wait a few minutes and you'll see the files disappear and your client will be updated to the latest definition updates you downloaded.

    I was told I would be updated once they release a full fix for the issue. So until then we'll be doing this manually.

    Yep, we have the same error, on both x86 and x64 servers.

    Actions tried thus far:

    Running the full and delta updates from Windows Explorer
    Running the full and delta updates from en elevated CMD
    mpcmdrun -signatureupdate -mmpc

    No success.

    I'd verify system and servicing health by running;
    sfc /scannow

    also system update readiness tool

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821

    Then check for errors in;
    %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

    Normal Service as been resumed.

    Thanks to BenK-9145 for working with MS and sharing the temporary workaround which he received and for everyone else who responded.

    Case closed......... for now.
