Why can't I open previous versions of word files in SharePoint 2019?

Hello,

I am currently using SharePoint 2019.

In a document library I can create a TXT file and check the previous versions by going to version history and clicking on the specific version I want to see.

For the word files, I am using an Office Online Server. Now, when I create a word file and check the version history to try and go to the previous versions, it does not work. I keep clicking on them and nothing works.

Though I can see the previous versions by restoring them or downloading them to the pc. But it does not seem fruitful.

Is there any way to see the previous versions of word files just by clicking on them like it works with the txt files?

    Hi @Aditya Biswas ,

It seems this is not a common issue per my test. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

1.You could try to clear browser cache then restart it.

2.Try to use a different browser or your browser's InPrivate mode to see if the same situation occurs.

3.Are other users with permissions facing the same problem? View through another computer or account.

4.Whether all SharePoint Libraries have the same problem? You could create a new SharePoint library with new word file to check.

5.Check if the same issue occurs with other SharePoint site collections.

Hope the information can help you. And if there have any unclear or misunderstanding, please feel free to post back and we’ll continue to help you all the time!

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated! Hope you have a good day and keep safe!
