Hi @ all

What does your experience say if I want to replace an Azure VM of type Standard_D8s_v3? Which Azure VM type should I choose. An MSSQL instance is running on it and currently a 200 GB SSD (type Premium SSD) is bound to it.

Depends, what is the main reason for the replacement? Do you need more compute? Do you need more memory? Do you need a cheaper vm? Really hard to answer without understanding the reason behind your question

Hi Marcus,

I'd recommend setting up some alerts on your current server (Standard_D8s_v3) to monitor the usage of RAM and CPU. Realistically speaking, if you are not hitting a consistent 80-90% usage of your specs then you really don't need to upsize.

Please understand that there is a cost associated to this, but will help you understand if you need the upgrade. You can also disable these at a later time.

Hi ,

Azure does have a very goo tool for VM Selection , wherein you can specify your criteria and then can check which VM is most suitable for you.
