Our users shared that when they use Excel Online (under Microsoft 365/SharePoint Online) they have more functionalities than in Excel Online on SharePoint on-prem integrated with Office Online Server.

Is it something to do with licensing?

do we need to upgrade or update on Office Online Server?

Microsoft 365 and Office | Office Online Server
Microsoft 365 and Office | Install, redeem, activate | For business | Windows
Microsoft 365 and Office | SharePoint | For business | Windows
Microsoft 365 and Office | Excel | For business | Windows

Hi @Robin Chen,

This has nothing to do with licensing. After all, OOS and Office Online are two different versions of Office (just like SharePoint Server vs SharePoint Online), and it is normal to have functional differences.

Of course, we encourage users to upgrade or update OOS to the latest mainly for safety and reliability. The functional differences will be narrowed as the version is updated, but it does not mean that you will have the same functions after updating to the latest version. After all, product differences (OOS vs Office for web) lead to functional differences.

Additionally, references for you,

Hope my answer helps. Let me know if you still have any other questions.
