Persistent 2FA Issue with Microsoft Authenticator for Facebook Access

Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I am reaching out for assistance regarding a two-factor authentication (2FA) issue with Facebook that I believe is related to the Microsoft Authenticator app. For two months now, whenever I try to log into my Facebook account, it prompts me for a 2FA code. Each time I enter the code provided by the Authenticator app, Facebook informs me that the code does not match, effectively locking me out of my account.

In my efforts to resolve this, I have engaged with Facebook's support team extensively. They have attempted numerous solutions, but the issue persists, with the Authenticator's codes consistently being rejected. Their support team has now directed me to Microsoft, suggesting a potential communication issue between the Authenticator app and Facebook.

Additional context that may be of importance: I switched from a Samsung Note 9 (Android 10, Authenticator app version 6.2310.7174) to an iPhone 13 Pro (Authenticator version 6.8.1). Post-transition, I observed that my new Authenticator app installation on iOS did not carry over the linked accounts from my Android device, despite using the same Microsoft ID. This included the linkage to my Facebook account which is critical for my 2FA login process.

After contacting Microsoft's support directly, I was advised to seek help via this forum, where specialists are known to provide assistance with such issues.

I am hopeful for a specialist's insight into how to ensure proper synchronization between the Microsoft Authenticator app and Facebook's 2FA system, or any steps I need to follow to restore access to my account.

Thank you for your time and help.

Best regards,

Shoaib

It isn't possible to backup / restore across android->ios->android. The only method is to sign on via old device, turn off MFA at service provider, then enable MFA again on new device. The authenticator app is nothing more than a code generator. The two factor is only turned on or off at the service provider end.

The only other option is to work with each of the service provider's account recovery methods. The authenticator app is nothing more than a code generator. The two factor is only turned on or off at the service provider end.

If you no longer have the old device then you'll need to reach out to the service provider (facebook) for assistance or find another android phone to do the authenticator restore on.
