Reserved Instance Recommended Quantity

Hello, We are trying to assess purchasing Reserved Instance and tried looking into the estimated monthly savings displayed under Reservations in the Azure portal. We are particularly thinking about purchasing RI VMs under the single resource group scope. When we already set the specific resource group and tried selecting a particular region, we didn't get any results under the Recommendations tab. But when we clicked on All Products and selected a VM type/size we wanted, it displayed an estimated monthly savings. If we push through with purchasing the Reserved Instance even with 0 Recommended Quantity will we still get the estimated monthly savings? Andy why is there no any Recommendations showing but if we manually select a VM type/size it would be able to show potential savings? Thank you. ![35539-reserved-instance-no-recommendations.jpg][1]![35702-reserved-instance-all-products.jpg][2] [1]: /api/attachments/35539-reserved-instance-no-recommendations.jpg?platform=QnA [2]: /api/attachments/35702-reserved-instance-all-products.jpg?platform=QnA

@Venerando PEREZ Firstly, apologies for the delay in responding on this and any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

Below is the response i got from our backend team:

Here is how we calculate recommendations:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/reservations/reserved-instance-purchase-recommendations?toc=/azure/cost-management-billing/reservations/toc.json

Recommendations are based on the usage over a period of time. If we don’t find sustained usage over time, we don’t recommend the SKU. User can still purchase the SKU and the discount % is the potential savings over the PayG rate.

    Hope it helps :) !!!
