Can I downgrade MS365 premium to MS365 standard without issues

Hello, I have a customer with 9 PC's and MS365 premium that are managed with Intune.
Is it possible to downgrade from MS365 premium to MS365 standard??
What can I run into if I do this ?? Any advice is appreciated !

From your description, I know that you want to downgrade MS365 premium to MS365 standard.

Based on my research, it is not feasible to downgrade from MS365 premium to MS365 standard directly, you should cancel MS365 premium subscription and purchase MS365 standard.

Hello, I know the license issue. But the question is about intune managed devices, is there a problem with a downgrade from premium to standard if the device is managed by intune? What does Windows if intune no longer able to access, does it continue to work and the only thing is that stop working is the profile not being loaded when a new device is bought? I hope you get the question.

If you downgrade the MS365 premium to MS365 standard, Intune and Windows will behave differently depending on the features you are using.

MS365 premium includes Microsoft Intune, which is a cloud-based service that allows you to manage your devices remotely. With Intune, you can apply policies, settings, and apps to your devices from the cloud. You can also use Intune to integrate with other Microsoft services, such as Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Azure Active Directory, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager. MS365 standard does not include Intune, so you will not be able to manage your devices from the cloud, and you will have to rely on other tools or methods to do so.

MS365 premium includes Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, which is a security solution that protects your devices from advanced threats. With Defender for Endpoint, you can get next-generation protection, endpoint detection and response, and threat & vulnerability management. MS365 standard does not include Defender for Endpoint, so you will not get the same level of protection and visibility for your devices.

For managed devices by Intune, they will stay enrolled but none of the policies will be enforced.

Thanks for the update.
So the device keeps working with same profile but policies are no longer enforced.
So client doesn't get any dissruption in Windows profile?

The device keeps working with same profile, but policies will no longer enforced.

But this may cause some disruption in the Windows profile of the client, as some features and settings that are available in MS365 premium are not supported by MS365 standard. For example, MS365 premium includes Intune, which allows you to manage the devices and applications of your organization. MS365 standard does not include Intune, so you may lose some control and security over the client’s devices and apps.
