Question

Today I was updating my visual studio 2022 from 17.5.5 to 17.8 by using the visual studio installer and I got the next error:

Something went wrong with the install.

You can troubleshoot the package failures by:

    3. Remove the product from your machine and then install again

Thanks for your sharing! I am glad to hear that you can use the VS2022 version 17.9 Preview successfully. 

For the update issue with version 17.8, I will share some ideas and you can have a try again. 

About the error message “Access is denied”, it seems to be caused by insufficient permission.

Please verify that you, Administrators and SYSTEM have sufficient permission like Full Control/Read/Write to the directory ‘C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages’. 

Besides, if you have any anti-virus, enterprise group policy, app-blocker, or GPO based permission software installed, please temporarily disable them. Then, go to Visual Studio Installer and repair the installation.
