Trying to add a security group user (database level) results in an error: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission. Are security groups not supported in preview? Will they be supported in GA?

Thank you for your reply, the link is valuable. However my original problem remains. By running the normal syntax, the error is raised:
CREATE USER [ICU Nurses] FROM EXTERNAL PROVIDER;
The syntax works fine in SQL Databases, but as stated my problem is related to the Synapse SQL On-Demand endpoint.
Again, to make it clear: If I have an AAD security group called 'ICU Nurses', the above syntax will work normally for a SQL Database. However, by running it in Synapse On-Demand, the following error is raised:
'ICU Nurses' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.

So strange , I am able to do that without issue . See snapshot below .
Does the security group really exist on the server , please check by navigating to azure portal and following the below gif . Also what kind permission you are having ? Is the Active directory admin set ?

Strange indeed. However, it now works for me when I tried again today without any changes so the problem seemed to be related to synapse workspaces somehow.
I had this same problem in 2 different organizations. The groups exist, I could add the groups to a SQL Database and assign roles to the groups in the portal for various resources. I am also the Active Directory Admin for the Synapse workspace. I could add single users as users in the Synapse workspace, but adding the security group failed.
Thank you for your help, the problem seemed to solve itself.
