Yes. also for any client that read the historical data. If the Monitoring software is collecting data from other devices to log to the SqlServer, you probably need a device cal for each of them as your software is acting as a multiplexer. You should check with an official license rep.
MS SQL server CAL for a software client running on the same machine
Hi
I have a question for license rules regarding MS SQL CAL licenses:
i have an industrial Monitoring software that is running on a physical server and what is required is to install a MS SQL sever instance on the same physical server to act as a historization system for some critical data produced by the industrial software.
the software side will simply connect to the SQL server every minute and log some data.
my question is do i need a CAL License for that software side?
