Hello All,

I need your urgent Support to know how to fix the error "Access is denied" for any USB drive that I connect to any USB port in my server which has a Windows server 2022.

Noting that I did the below troubleshooting steps but unfortunately, nothing of them solved the problem:-

  1. I enabled the USBSTOR registry.
  2. I checked the device manager and I found the USB serial Bus already enabled and updated with the latest drive.
  3. I disabled any "Deny" policy in the local policies that prevent any removable storage device.
  4. I gave "everyone" from the security tab of the USB drive all the permissions.
  5. I disabled both Windows Defender and 3rd party Antivirus.
  6. I formatted the USB drive many times and I used other ones, but also I got the same error.
  7. I restarted the server many times after each step.

So, thanks if anyone can help me to solve this critical problem urgently.

Waiting for your kind urgent support.

Thanks,

    Hello Ashraf Saeed,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

1.Is your Windows server 2022 in one domain or in the workgroup?
2.If the server is in one domain, can you connect to all the USB port in the past?
3.If you can be able to connect to all the USB port in the past, what change have you made currently then the issue occurs?

If the server in one domain, based on "I disabled any "Deny" policy in the local policies that prevent any removable storage device", please check if you have set any similar setting as "prevent any removable storage device" (including user configurations and computer configurations) via domain GPO.

Here are related settings under Computer Configurations:

    User's image

For checking Computer Configuration within gpresult, we can follow steps below.

Logon this machine using administrator account.

    Open CMD (run as Administrator).

Type gpresult /h C:\gpo.html and click Enter.

Open gpo.html and check gpo setting under "Computer Details".

Here are related settings under User Configurations:
    User's image

For checking User Configurations within gpresult, we can follow steps below.

Logon the machine using normal domain user account.

    Create a folder named F1.

Open CMD (do not run as Administrator).

Type gpresult /h C:\F1\gpo.html and click Enter.

Open gpo.html and check gpo setting under "User Details".

Also, please check if there is any Deny entry permission via Security tab.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou

    Hello Daisy Zhou,

Thanks for your kind reply and please be uninformed that my server isn't in the domain, is in the workgroup and all ports were working in a proper way and I was enabling/disabling them by the above-mentioned GPOs in your reply.

Suddenly, I tried to enable the USB ports to use them but unfortunately, they started to show this error for any connected USB drive at all ports "Access Denied".

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf Saeed
