Teams open links to Office app in the desktop app - ALWAYS

When I click on a link to a file in Teams, I need it to open in the associated desktop app by default (word, excel, etc.)

I only get these options:

But I cannot make "desktop app" the default.

In settings, I can't choose the app.

Not sure how to tell the specific version/build of Teams - using Microsoft 365

Hi @Dom

Are you using Teams Classic or new Teams client?

Before attempting to edit an Office file in its desktop app, make sure you've met these prerequisites:

Be using the Teams desktop app for Windows or MacOS
Must have an Office 365 E3 or E5 license
Download the desktop apps for PowerPoint, Word, and Excel (Office version 16 or newer)

Definitely 1 & 3. As far as point #2, how would I tell E3 or E5? Note: I'm logged in to Teams with my work credentials but I'm working from my home computer (out for a couple of months).

About how to check which license users are assigned, you could access Office 365 admin center>Users>Active Users>select a user>check if you can see which E3 plan is enabled for him.

No, no Office 365 Admin Center. Not an admin at work, and anyway, this issue occurs on my HOME computer, no admin center (that I am aware of). I'm the only user on this pc and, of course, the admin.

Also not: New Teams or Old Teams does not make a difference.
