Azure dns name server not working for my domain

Hi there team,

Thanks in advance for looking into this issue for me. Any hint as to how I can resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

I added Azure DNS into my test tenant. The name servers I was given, when I try to add them to my domain registrar, are not resolving to proper IP addresses, and hence they are not working.

Its already been more than 24 hours since I created / added the Azure DNS zone.

Am I missing something?

Cheers

Benny

    Hello @Benny Cigaral ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & hope you are doing well.

I understand that you are delegating your domain to Azure DNS by creating an Azure DNS zone and adding the Azure NS records to your domain registrar, but the DNS resolution is not working.

You can use Azure DNS to host your DNS domain and manage your DNS records. For a successful domain delegation, you need to follow the below steps:

    1. Create a DNS zone in Azure.
    2. Retrieve name servers from the Azure DNS zone.
    3. In the registrar's DNS management page, edit the NS records and replace the NS records with the Azure DNS name servers. Use all four name servers, regardless of the name of your domain.
    4. After you complete the delegation, you can verify that it's working by using a tool such as nslookup to query the Start of Authority (SOA) record for your zone. The SOA record is automatically created when the zone is created. It can take a while for changes to propagate through the DNS system.

NOTE : When you copy each name server address, make sure you copy the trailing period at the end of the address. The trailing period indicates the end of a fully qualified domain name. Some registrars append the period if the NS name doesn't have it at the end. To be compliant with the DNS RFC, include the trailing period.

    Please refer: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/dns/dns-delegate-domain-azure-dns

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/dns/dns-domain-delegation

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/dns/dns-troubleshoot#i-cant-resolve-my-dns-record

Confirm that your DNS domain name has been correctly delegated to the Azure DNS name servers. There are many 3rd-party web sites that offer DNS delegation validation. This test is a zone delegation test, so you should only enter the DNS zone name and not the fully qualified record name. You can use https://digwebinterface.com/ to test this.

Please validate that you have followed all the above steps for a successful delegation.

You also mentioned "The name servers I was given, when I try to add them to my domain registrar, are not resolving to proper IP addresses, and hence they are not working."

Do you have an A record added in your DNS zone? To be able to resolve the domain to an IP address, you should have an A record in your DNS zone as below:
