SCCM Migration from on-prem to Azure

Hello Experts,

I have a SCCM environment which needs to be migrated to Azure. Client wants to move the SCCM infrastructure completely from on-prem to Azure. The plan is to use active passive approach for the migration like the current on-prem site will act as an active SCCM site and then we build out a passive site in Azure. Later in the process we switch the site and make azure site as active and on-prem as passive and finally down the line we decommission the on-prem SCCM site.

Experts, please suggest if this approach looks good and if we proceed with this approach the migration will be smooth. Also, How SCCM roles will be migrated is there any kind of additional configuration required for the roles or roles will be migrated automatically when the passive site is created.

Thanks,

NM.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

Try the Azure Migration Tool. Starting in version 1910, this tool helps you to programmatically create Azure virtual machines (VMs) for Configuration Manager. It can install with default settings site roles like a passive site server, management points, and distribution points. Once you validate the new roles, use them as additional site systems for high availability. You can also remove the on-premises site system role and only keep the Azure VM role. Thanks for your time. Have a nice day!

    Best regards,

    Simon

    Hi,

You can use Backup and restore approach as well.

Take backup of existing MECM site + DB using maintenance task or any other way which you like. Build Windows server on Azure with same hostname as existing one and install all pre req for MECM.

Shut down existing site server. Restore the site from backup on new Azure server.

    Best Regards,
