Hello, I need your help.

I've searched but I can't find my problem. I have a lot of DNS entries that are not up to date. In my DHCP server logs, I have many of these errors:

PTR record registration for IPv4 address [[x.x.x.x]] and FQDN computer.domain.com failed with error 9005 (DNS operation refused.)

Forward record registration for IPv4 address [[x.x.x.x]] and FQDN computer.domain.com failed with error 9005 (DNS operation refused.).

I configured an account on DHCP for DNS dynamic update registration credentials and this account is in the DnsUpdateProxy group. My DHCP computer account is not in this group.

I notice in my DNS some entries were added by this account, but other entries were added by the computers directly. So I think this is what is causing my errors, the DHCP server wants to update its entries but does not have the rights. Do I understand correctly?

I'm missing a detail? I only have one DHCP server, and 3 DCs. Your help is really appreciated!

Hello,

In addition to confirming the account permission problem, the following points should also be confirmed:

DNS Server configuration issues: You may need to check the configuration of the DNS server to make sure it allows the registration of those records.
Network issues: Check your network connection to make sure those devices can connect to the DNS server.
Timeout: Sometimes, DNS server may refuse the registration of the record due to a long wait for a response, you can try again later.

This is for PTR records. Without the corresponding reverse lookup zone, PTR records cannot be registered, resulting in the error messages.

OK. What's the current result? Can the records register normally?

If not, did you give your DHCP computer account permission to update the records?

It is normal. As long as the account is authorized, it can update the record.

Have you checked the account permission problem?
