I see that Exam 70-761 is set to retire at the beginning of next year. We use this test as a price-of-admission cert for new employees. Which test will be replacing this exam? If no replacement, which exam is the closest equivalent? Thank you!

MVA learning is supported on their own forums. I'd try asking for help in dedicated forums here.

70-761 is part of MCSA - SQL Server certification which is more on T-SQL Querying. Unfortunately I don't see any close exam to this one.

They are focusing more on Role based certifications now, specially Azure related certifications
    See this - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/posts/mcsa-mcsd-mcse-certifications-retire-with-continued-investment-to-role-based-certifications

New data related certifications launched are DP-900, DP-200, DP-201 and DP-300.
You can see all certifications here - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/browse/

Fair enough, but SQL Developper is a role (even in Azure), and right now there is only a DBA exam available...
