Switch to Local Account on Window 10 Education

My desktop is running on Windows 10 Education edition. The main user on my account is based on my old school/work email, which is being deactivated soon. I want to know how to switch to a local user or to change the email associated with this user to one of my personal emails. I would prefer to do it this way rather than having to reinstall a lot of different applications, unless there is an efficient way to do so.

The usual way I've seen suggested is to go to Settings>Accounts>Your Info> and then switch to a local user. But that option is not appearing for me.

I understand your concern. Since you are using Windows 10 Education edition, the option to switch to a local user may not be available. However, you can still change the email associated with your user account. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts.
    2. Under the "Accounts used by other apps" section, click on the email address you want to remove.
    3. Click on the "Remove" button and confirm the action.
    4. Click on the "Add an account" button and follow the prompts to add your personal email address.
    5. Once your personal email address is added, you can set it as the default email address for your user account by going to Settings > Accounts > Your Info and selecting your personal email address under the "Email address" section.

Please note that changing the email address associated with your user account may affect some applications that rely on your old email address for authentication. You may need to update the email address in those applications as well.

To avoid complications in the future however the reinstall option is the best way to go.

Depending on policies & configuration setting currently in place by your school's management of the device and the expiry of the education license you will not be able to configure or control some features and settings.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Andrew Q Pham,

For this situation, Delete account represented as a key in registry from the following location:

    HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\StoredIdentities

After delete, restart computer and test again.

    1. You can also remove your MSA on your computer. To do that, you can follow the steps provided below:

Click Start >Go to Settings >Look for Accounts >Go to Email & app accounts >Look for your MSA and click Remove.

Please note, after doing this, your Microsoft account should no longer be on your test computer, except the fact that you cannot download anything from the Windows Store unless you associate this computer with another MSA.

Hope the information above is helpful.
