If you change the name of an Entra registered iPad on the device itself, does it update in Entra?

We manage our fleet of iPads using Jamf.

After we register the iPads via the Authenticator app they are renamed to a specific naming format that includes their serial number.

However most of these iPads in the Entra portal do not have their device names up to date.

For example on the iPad the device name is iPad1 but in the Entra portal it's just called iPad mini (6th generation)

The iPads have been online for weeks so I don't think it's a timely issue.

Is this normal?

    @Winston Tran

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A, from above description I could understand that you are looking for advise on does Entra ID display name of device changes if the device name is changed locally.

    Please do correct me if this is not the ask by responding in the comments section:

    Device name does not get updated after registration. The device registration service does not export the name once device is registered.

    Only way to have common nomenclature for a device us by having it enrolled to Intune and deploying device rename template or rename manually via Intune.

    OR

    You may try using Set-AzureADDevice to update the diplay name property via Powershell.

    Thanks,
