I can't get into my Outlook account because I can't get my delete my old employer's certificate from Authenticator on my iPhone. I've found the setting that allows for deleting account certificates, but when I go through the deletion process, I still end up with the old company account attached. Since I don't work for that company (and haven't for over a year), I can't go to their portal to delete the account.
My new employer's IT doesn't know how to solve this problem without wiping my phone, which I don't want to do, especially since I don't know how that will impact my personal Office 365 account. Is there a way to fix this without wiping my phone? And if I were to wipe it, how would I avoid the old certificate from getting loaded from the backup?

Do you get an error message or a warning or something?
When I try to enter my credentials for my current employee, I get an error saying I have to delete the old credentials. Which I can't do since I don't have access to the old email account associated with them.

This is the error message I get (with the emails edited out). After I click Okay on this message (which doesn't show more text), it just goes to the Add Account screen again.
I've tried deleting both Authenticator and Outlook and that doesn't work. My IT guy's only solution is to completely wipe my phone but this is a company I only do occasional work for, so I'm really disinclined to wipe my phone and reenter all of my passwords and apps after a fresh start.

Ok, sounds like intune or some similar device management tools software is being used. The managment tools admins will need to get involved to solve this one. This is not an authenticator problem. Unenrolling may be a possibility.

I had something similar to this for my github account with my mac. I wasn't able to connect my work github account to vs code because my mac saved my personal login credentials to keychain. I had to delete those credentials in keychain before it would switch accounts.
Maybe check and see if something similar is going on with your keychain access on your iphone. If you find your old credentials and delete them, then your phone should automatically save your new credentials when you sign in.
I don't think that's it: I've deleted the old company from the Authenticator app's list of registered company's and have to enter my email. But if I wanted to do that, I wouldn't know how.

Sounds like you'll need to remove the account from the mobile phone settings. To do this on my android phone the steps would be Settings\Passwords & accounts

Unfortunately, that was one of my first steps and it didn't work. I've even gone as far as deleting both Outlook and Authenticator and removing my current company's account from the app. I still get the error message about the old company.
Ok, have not seen this before. Sounds like what's left may be to remove the outlook app from the phone.
I did that as an early step. I removed both Outlook and Authenticator to see if that cleared the data. It didn't.
Ok, I missed that. May need to consult an iphone guru about where the objects are being cached.

Do you have a screenshot of the error dialog presented?
This is the text verbatim, with the specific email addresses swapped for OLD and NEW. there is no additional text when clicking on the message, so I don't know what the "…" abridges. Once I click on this error pane, it goes back to the New Address part, with no changes.
