On 31st August 2024, support for Azure Automation Update Management will end. The offering is dependent on the Log Analytics agent which will also deprecate the same day. Before that date, please migrate to Azure Update Manager, a native functionality for patching and assessment of Virtual Machines.

Step 5 Deboard from Azure Automation Update management. Specifically removing VM's from Update management does not work for those that have enabled the radio checkbox Enable on all available and Non and future machines. The fix is to go to the workspace and add the following as a scope configurations MicrosoftDefaultComputerGroup. The ADD button is greyed out because this feature is deprecated. So how do we make so that we have follow the directions for removing VM's from update management?

We don't use Automation accounts, but we do have virtual machines.
Does this migration apply to us? I believe it doesn't, as my understanding is that Azure Automation Update Management requires an Automation account.
Could you please confirm this?

@Cosmina Alexandra Jelea (RO) Automation Update Management solution does require an automation account, so if you do not have any automation accounts, it seems you do not have any update management solution to migrate!

Same as @Cosmina Alexandra Jelea (RO), we have virtual machines and no automation account.
(Also, we do not have Log Analytics workspaces.)

Hi, we are using CIS L1 pre-hardened images from cisecurity, according to Microsoft documentation CIS hardened images are not supported by Update manager yet. Is it in the roadmap to support CIS hardened images or even better a timeline for the support ?

@Rob Czymoch Irrespective of having scope configuration enabled or not i.e. even if you have option "Enable on all available and future machines" in the Manage machines section of Azure Update Management, if you follow step 5 in the doc which is to delete the "updates" solution from LA workspace, the VMs would get deboarded from AUM solution. This will ensure we no longer do assessment on machines & associated system hybrid worker are deleted. Let us know if you are still facing issues after deleting updates solution from workspace.
