Hi Everyone,
We are setting up Android work profiles for our staff and have had a grumbling about it. We enabled PIN access for the work profile but users get prompted for the pin, every time they open the app.
Is it possible to have just opening work profile pin protected and accept biometrics and then the work apps just open without issue?

From your description, I know that you want to open work profile pin protected and accept biometrics and then the work apps just open without password.
Based on my research, I found that the setting work profile password under Android Enterprise Device restriction applies to the apps in the work profile, therefore, if you open the pin protected work profile and you want to open the work app, you should enter the pin to open it. Moreover, if you want to enable biometric, you can configure weak biometric setting.

Hello - the android devices used are personal devices so the devices just have a work profile, the platform is set as an android enterprise

Based on my research, the setting work profile password under Android Enterprise Device restriction is applied to personally owned and corporate owned devices, the policy applies to the app in the work profile, therefore, you cannot open the work app without pin while you have entered the pin for the work profile.

Thank you - can you advise when why the biometrics do appear as an option? End users have to enter the PIN every time they try to use the app.

Based on my researching, I found that biometrics is a safer and more convenient technology. The setting is only available for Android 11 and later. When you configure Low security biometric in policy, if you access the work file for the first time, it will ask you to set the pin and biometric, like Face unlock, Fingerprint unlock, Iris unlock. And you can use biometric the next time you access the work file.

I tried the steps in the microsoft page and this did not work. When the Android work profile opens, the user gets no prompt for pin or biometrics now.

Please check policy status in Intune portal, if the policy status is fine and when users open Android work profile still get no prompt for pin or biometrics, there may be some errors in background of Intune, it is suggested that you open a case to get more help.
