Why does my Authenticator app not have a QR code scanning function?

I am being told that my organisation (ie me!) is insisting I sign in using a QR code scanned through my Authenticator app and puts a QR code on my desktop screen. But there is no QR scanning function on my mobile authenticator app. So I am stuck. Any ideas?
