Azure VPNGW1 to Sonicwall Latency Spikes

I have an ongoing issue for a client where they have a new RHEL 7.9 instance with a site-to-site VPN using VPNGW1 going to their on-prem Sonicwall TZ270.

The issue that they're experiencing at the moment is that when attempting to ping the public IP for the VM, they experience no network dropouts however the application configured on the VM is to be used over the S2S VPN only and across the VPN every 9-12 seconds they receive a latency spike of approximately 300ms and all application connections dropout.

I've had a look through the configurations and these all appear to be correct and the VPN appears to be up and stay connected without any dropouts.

I'm unsure what would be causing the spikes in latency with the exception of the VPNGW1 SKU but traffic throughput shouldn't be anywhere near the maximum limits as there's only a small amount of users connecting to the device.

If anyone has any suggestions or has seen this before, it'd be appreciated.

    @Mike Knoll
    Thank you for reaching out.

    I understand you are getting latency spikes for your Azure VPN VPNGW1 SKU. There is a similar issue reported regarding this issue with VPNGW1 SKU here -> https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs/issues/116873

    If possible, can you change the SKU and see if that fixes the issue?

    Update (01/04): The product team is currently working on this issue and I will post an update here as soon we have the root cause analyses. Meanwhile, if you are facing this latency spike for VPNGW1 SKU the work around is to upgrade to a higher SKU.

    Please let me know if it is not possible for you to change the SKU. Thank you!
