2 weeks ago I built my very first PC and had a great time with my friends building it. Here are the specs

RTX 4060 Ti

Ryzen 7 5800x3d

32 gigs of ram

1 tb storage

Anyways after booting it for the first time and downloading all my necessary drivers I encountered an issue. My PC would be very framey and would just turn off whenever it felt like it. Over the past two weeks I’ve been researching and trying to find the cause of the issue and finally found a fix when I uninstalled my up to date GPU drivers and installed an older version of them. Specifically going from version 546.33 to 532.03. I was extremely happy to use my PC properly and finally play some games. While doing so I noticed my GPU temps had increased to over 78 degrees. And I immediately stopped playing and realized my GPU fans weren’t on. So I went to MSI Afterburner to turn them on manually. Unfortunately when I tried to click on the “A” in MSI Afterburner to change the fan speeds, the “A” was greyed out and I couldn’t make any changes. This was about an hour ago. Since then I’ve been looking for a way to turn them on and I can’t find anything. Thought I’d come here asking for help. Thank you in advance.

Edit: Also sorry if my terminology doesn’t make sense, I’m kinda new to the PC world.

    Hello rhys alterman

It sounds like you’re experiencing issues with controlling your GPU fans through MSI Afterburner. Here are a few suggestions to try and check this issue:

Check Fan Connections: Open your computer case and ensure that your GPU fans are properly connected to the power supply.

Update MSI Afterburner: Check if there’s an update for MSI Afterburner. If there is, download and install it.

Reset MSI Afterburner Settings: Click on the Reset button in the MSI Afterburner interface to reset all settings to their default values.

Check GPU Fan in BIOS: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS. Check if the GPU fan settings are set correctly. You should be able to manually adjust the fan speed in the BIOS settings.

Reinstall MSI Afterburner: If all else fails, try uninstalling MSI Afterburner completely from your system, then download and install the latest version from the official MSI website.

At last, I suggest that rollback the GPU driver to check if the setting could be used. Sometimes an outdated GPU driver can cause problems. Go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver for your GPU. According to your description, if the system has problems after installing the latest GPU driver, try to check for update, installing the latest update of your system.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
