'VBScript' deprecated feature

Hi There,

'VBScript' is listed as a deprecated feature for "Windows Client" here (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/deprecated-features).

Is there any tentative timeline when the VBScript will be completely removed from the Operating System?

We use VBScript heavily to support ActiveX controls (Windows common controls - Calendar, Tree, Tabs etc.), it would be great if you can provide or point some path forward to support the mentioned ActiveX controls with the alternative of VBScript?

VBscript consists mainly of wscript.exe and cscript.exe which execute script files that end in a .vbs extension. Is that what you are using? Or are you using Visual Studio and VB .Net? Or within Internet Explorer?

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We have an option to use MS JScript in place of VBScript - so wondering if JScript is supported scripting which can be used an alternative for VBScript for long run? As we have to put efforts to translate the existing VBScripts to JScript towards migration - we have concern though, even JScript may be supported for now but not sure about the MS support/roadmap for JScript for long run.

We just want to know about MS JScript long run support/roadmap, before finalizing on VBScript to JScript migration. This is a crucial path forward for us, please do let us know your valuable feedback.

Hi,

There is no specific timeline for the removal of VBScript so far. It will still be available as a feature on demand before being removed in future Windows releases. You can consider using PowerShell if you are looking for an alternative to VBScript,

except a huge number of useful powershell scripts rely on calling wscript/cscript. For instance I don't know of any method in pure powershell that will allow for creating a shortcut, while such a thing is trivial if you call Wscript
